Ben Mandelson

Musician and producer Ben Mandelson was born in Liverpool and lives in London, UK. He is a leading world music freelance record producer working in all areas of world music. He is the co-founder and A&R manager / house producer for the influential GlobeStyle label in London. For GlobeStyle he produced artists in many parts of Europe and other continents - Balkan Gypsy star Ferus Mustafov (Macedonia), Jova Stojiljkovic (Serbia) and Kalesijski Zvuci (Bosnia) among them. Many East African & Indian Ocean recordings ‘in the field’.

His production credits for GlobeStyle and other labels such as Music & Words (Netherlands), Piranha Records}}([[Germany), Polygram (Finland), Sony (Japan), Xenophile (USA), World Music Network (UK), BMG (Czech Republic), Rice Records (Japan) have resulted in a large number of releases.

His work as a producer for Piranha Records includes albums of Lusafrican top singer Bonga (Angola), Klezmer worldstars Klezmatics (USA), master drummer of the Nile, Mahmoud Fadl (Egypt), king of the Piano Oriental Maurice El Médioni (Algeria/France), Nubian all stars Salamat (Egypt), African mbira queen Stella Chiweshe (Zimbabwe), Chamame Maestro Chango Spasiuk (Argentina) and BrassStars Boban & Marko Markovic (Serbia).

The 2005 Sony/BMG release by the group Czechomor ‘Co Sa Stalo Nove’ gained Ben & co-Producer Rob Keyloch (with whom Ben works in production partnership) a Platinum Disc.

Mandelson was a founding member of the early wold music cult band band 3 Mustaphas 3 and founding director of WOMEX 1994 - 1997. He is now a string-twanging member of Billy Bragg's orchestra The Blokes.
