World music in the 1960s

In the 1960s, British musicologist David Lewiston traveled to various corners of the world to record traditional music. Many of his recordings were released by Nonesuch Records on their Explorer series. In 2005 Nonesuch re-issued several recordings for the first time on CD.

Artists like Bob Dylan shocked the folk music world by adding electric guitars, joining the increasingly popular rock music scene.
